Smart Digital City
My vision for New Orleans is to leapfrog many other cities in America technologically. We will become a digital city much like Barcelona Spain has done in Europe. The “new” New Orleans will have automated meter reading and quality testing of our infrastructure via a publicly accessible Wi-Fi network. The Wi-Fi network will allow EMS personnel to rapidly communicate vital information to health professionals and hospitals. The network will serve as a unique tool for tourist and educators throughout the city. The network will also position New Orleans for the automobiles of the future. We will have smart traffic lights that adjust based on traffic patterns and not timing. Every resident who owns a smartphone will have an app to communicate directly to my administration for police actions, reporting leaks, potholes, etc. Our law enforcement team will use technology being deployed in Tampa, Florida simply called a gunshot microphone. This technology will detect the location of a gunshot and immediately notify the police department thereby reducing the 911 response times.
